Similan Liveaboard Trips run from October 15 to May 15 each year. During the rainy season, the Similan and Surin Islands National Park is closed.

About the Similan Islands National Park

comprises 11 islands and surrounding coral reefs, covering 140 km². It’s located approximately 70 km west of the mainland. The park was designated a national park in 1982, banning development and fishing. Most islands are uninhabited, with only two having small camps. It’s perfect if you seek isolation, but expect limited mobile network and internet access.

Underwater, there’s much to see for divers and snorkelers. The Similan island group, consisting of nine granite islands, plus Koh Bon and Tachai, offer over 30 dive sites. The first three islands are off-limits to preserve their natural state. Islands 4 to 9 feature large granite rock formations and coral reefs with rock arches, passages, and coral gardens. Marine life is diverse, from tiny fish to whale sharks, typical of the Indian Ocean’s tropical marine life.

You might spot reef sharks, leopard sharks, mantas and whale sharks. Macro marine life includes nudibranchs, pipefish, shrimp, and more. During boat journeys, you may spot dolphins and other cetaceans. Visibility is usually excellent, 20-30 meters. Above water, pristine beaches, coconut palms, and granite rocks create stunning vistas. Most Similan liveaboard trips include visits to the 4th and 8th islands’ beaches and viewpoints.

In the northern part of the Similan Islands National Park, Koh Bon and Koh Tachai offer encounters with pelagic fish, manta rays, and whale sharks. Coral gardens and crevices give home to octopuses, sea snakes, lobsters. Napoleon wrasses, tunas and reef sharks patrol the surrounding reefs.

About the Surin National Park

In the Surin Islands National Park, you can dive at Richelieu Rock, considered Thailand’s most beautiful dive site. It features purple and red soft corals with frogfish, seahorses, pipefishes, and countless shrimps and nudibranchs inhabit the rocks. Giant schools of mackerel and barracuda hang in the blue, and you can spot pharaoh cuttlefish, giant groupers, and octopuses in the crevices.

We recommend the Similan liveaboard trips for advanced divers with a minimum of 10-20 logged dives. If you’re not advanced, you can complete a discounted advanced diving course for 6,900 Baht during these tours. Open Water certified divers can participate with a min. 10 logged dives under private dive guide supervision, typically costing 2,000 Baht/day on the safaris.
