About Richelieu Rock Dive Site
Richelieu Rock is located 18 kilometers from the Surin-Islands. While the top of the rock barely touches the surface, it occupies a vast area in the depths, therefore it takes more dives to explore the entire dive site. May depth is between 30-33 meters.
The top of the rock is covered with green sea grass, while deeper areas are adorned with bright soft corals. Octopuses, cuttlefish, and giant groupers are often observed in the rock’s crevices.
At the seabed, numerous smaller and larger standalone rocks surround the main rock. Additionally, the macro world is marvelous: seahorses, ghost pipefish, clownfish, and dancing shrimp hide in the cracks. Various types of nudibranchs and frogfish await discovery.
The rock is surrounded by large schools of fish: giant and chevron barracudas, jackfish, and snapper. It’s always worth keeping an eye on the activity in the blue, as larger fish occasionally swim by. This location offers the best chance for a whale shark sighting in Thailand, but even here, considerable luck is required.
